After footage featuring Radhika Apte semi-naked found its way onto social media in April, nude images of another actress have been leaked online. Preeti Gupta, who starred in the soap Kahanii Ghar Ghar Ki, has spoken out a week after pictures of her, allegedly from the film Unfreedom, made the rounds of social media.
Preeti, 29, told Hindustan Times, “It’s true that the actors are vulnerable, and I am actually very angry about it. It’s bizarre and a violation of privacy. It’s not cool, and if there is anything to be banned, it’s such kind of things.Shooting such scenes needs dedication and discipline. It’s very challenging. The concept of the film made sense to me and that’s why we decided to show the truth of the situation. Ultimately, we were trying to recreate two hours of reality. Our intention is not to titillate but to show you the truth. It needs courage.”
Unfreedom, directed by Florida-based Raj Amit Kumar, released in America in May. The film was banned in India after the director refused to make the edits that the Censor Board had ordered. Preeti, who reportedly auditioned forUnfreedom while she was studying in New York, plays a closet lesbian in the film and deems the ban ‘ridiculous. “I find the ban very ridiculous, why should anything be banned? Don’t you trust the audience’s intelligence? One needs to watch the film to get the message, no? See, we are all adults and we should be given the choice to judge the content of a film. Homosexuality is very natural, what’s so different about it?,” said the actress.
Preeti made her television debut in the Balaji soap Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii and also had a major role in Kasturi. After a course at New York’s illustrious Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute, Preeti made her film debut in 2013′s Mere Haule Dost.
Unfreedom, which also features Adil Hussain and Victor Banerjee in key roles, chronicles a struggle of identities and addresses themes such as religion and homosexuality.
