After starting his journey behind the silver screen with Dilwale Dulhania Le Jaayenge, Karan Johar has turned into an entertainment wizard in Bollywood. As the filmmaker turned 43 on Monday, celebrities like Abhishek Bachchan, Sidharth Malhotra and Alia Bhatt wished him “amazing” and “blockbuster” year ahead.
He walked into the showbiz as assistant director to filmmaker Aditya Chopra in Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol’s romantic saga Dilwale Dulhania Le Jaayenge, in which he also had a small role.
The son of the late film producer Yash Johar, Karan has doled out entertainers like Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham and My Name Is Khan, which hinged upon family values and relationships.
As a film producer, Karan has also backed smaller projects like Gippi and Ungli to inject new life into independent cinema.
